GUA President’s Message

As we all know, after a stormy 2009, the world economies made a very strong recovery in 2010. I am very pleased to inform you that for GUA as a group, our sales revenue ended the year on a very impressive note - sales in ASEAN, China and India hit an all-time high.

Certainly, this record sales achievement would not be possible without the hard work and commitment of our staff and the undying support of our distributors and customers. On behalf of the company, I want to take this opportunity to say a big “THANK YOU” to all of you!

In a dynamic environment like ours, there will always be challenges both in the internal and external environment. On one hand, we need to manage staff turnover in emerging markets as the hiring rate in the tight job market picks up momentum. On the other hand, the strong Asia currencies will have an impact on export competitiveness.

Looking ahead, I remain very optimistic about what 2011 will bring. Firstly, we have oversold our production capacity in Asia. Considering the huge and growing market potential in Asia, we will continue to invest in new production lines so that our capacity can be increased to cope with rising demand.

In the last 12 to 18 months, we have also established new systems and continuous improvement programs internally to increase our operational efficiency. Over time, we will be able to reap the benefits of such initiatives when we can deliver a more competitive product with a shorter lead time to the market.

At the same time, we want to offer you with a wider range of products. The key is to develop and make products that the market needs and not necessarily what we can offer. Hearing the voice of the customers is obviously important as we continue to grow. If you have any idea along this line, I am very interested to hear from you.

GUA has a strong foundation in Asia and is well positioned to grow further. In the ever changing market conditions, we must adapt to change swiftly. If we are not responsive enough, we will be left behind in no time.

The year of 2011 itself is a very special year for both Gates and GUA. Gates celebrates its 100th anniversary and GUA has been established for 40 years! We are envied by many successful companies as we have a company, a brand, a trademark and a product that can withstand the test of time. We want to celebrate this success with all of you.

With your support and dedication, I strongly believe that Gates and GUA will achieve another year of record sales. For the next 100 years, we will continue to be very successful and we want you to be part of our success.
